/about me

I am a person of extremes, so it might make sense that my photography is also intense, usually high contrast. Although I appreciate photos with a lot of rich midtones, I do not work well with that type of image. I am not subtle, and neither is my work. I like strong, rich, vibrant color, patterns, and reflections. My colors are sometimes more intense than those found in reality, because they match what I see in my mind’s eye when I take the picture; not what my eyes physically see or what my camera captures, but what I am experiencing. I experience the world in full, rich, glorious highs and deep, cavernous, dark lows, without much in between.

I took my first photography course in high school. My final project consisted of high contrast images of contrasts, such as a gothic cathedral with its spires lining up in front of corresponding towers in a highly modern high rise structure behind it. A college course approximately ten years later helped develop a favorite hobby, but it was really just that - a hobby - until a few years ago.

Talking photography with Mark Hessenflow (markhessenflowphoto.com), and daily exposure to other incredibly talented photographers and their work on Google+ lit a fire under me, igniting a passion for photography that had been too long dormant. As a result, my photography has improved dramatically over the past few years. I am so grateful to all the talented people on G+ who share not only the product of their work, but also their tips and techniques, their encouragement, and their support. I have so much more growing to do, but the fun is in following the path!
